WANDERLEI SILVA FREE FOR POTENTIAL UFC 115 BOUT WITH AKIYAMA

Former PrideFC middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva has finally found his way back on the the winning track with his ufc 110 victory. Now that he remembers how to win, there’s a certain Japanese import calling for him and the Brazilian’s ready to answer.

“[Yoshihiro] Akiyama wants to fight Wanderlei very bad,” UFC president Dana White said at the UFC 110 post-fight presser. “It’s a big fight that he wants. We offered him another fight, and he said he wants Wanderlei.”

Silva was one fighter the 13-1 Akiyama never crossed paths with while in the Orient, but it appears he’s been chompin’ at the bit to get a piece for quite some time. Despite a less than spectacular split decision victory over Alan Belcher in his Octagon debut at UFC 100, Akiyama has his sights set on adding “The Axe Murderer” to his resume.

“Wanderlei is sitting here with stitches in his chin and a black eye and everything else,” White said. “He’s going to go home, relax, heal, and then we’ll talk to Wanderlei and see when he’s ready again. But yeah, Akiyama wants that fight really bad.”
