AWAITING MEDICAL CLEARANCE, THE ALVES VS. FITCH REMATCH HAS BEEN MOVED TO UFC 117

The anticipated rematch between UFC welterweights Thiago Alves and Jon Fitch will have to wait a little bit longer. Originally scheduled for UFC 111 in New Jersery, Alves was denied medical clearance due to a brain abnormality. Thankfully, the condition was not life or career threatening and Alves underwent successful surgery to repair the problem.

The fight was then rescheduled for UFC 115 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; however, a decision has been made to push back the bout once again to UFC 117 in Oakland, California on August 7.

While Alves has not experienced any complications with his surgery, the UFC wanted to take extra precaution and give the American Top Team fighter more time to prepare. Alves will have to pass another CAT scan to receive his medical clearance. In the meantime, he is training at full capacity.

In their first meeting at UFC Fight Night 5, Fitch defeated Alves by TKO.
