The speculation that former UFC welterweight contender, Karo “the Heat” Parisyan, was on the verge of signing a contract with Strikeforce is over. Company CEO, Scott Coker, revealed that the two parties did have initial talks, but an agreement couldn’t be reached.

“We had a cup of coffee. It didn’t work out. He’s a great kid. We wish him luck.”

Coker did not elaborate on the details of the contractual discrepancies.

This is the latest speed bump in Parisyan’s once thriving career. Back in 2005, “the Heat” was scheduled to face Matt Hughes for the welterweight title, but had to drop out due to injury. In the following years, Parisyan suffered from panic attacks, putting his reliability into question. His anxiety eventually led Parisyan to seek pharmaceutical help, resulting in a failed drug test following his bout with Dong Hyun Kim in early 2009.

With a chance to redeem himself at UFC 106, “the Heat” unexpectedly dropped out of his fight with Dustin Hazelett the day before weigh-ins. UFC President, Dana White, had apparently seen enough and immediately cut Parisyan from the organization.

There has been no word from Parisyan’s camp on where the welterweight may end up. Perhaps an affiliation with DREAM or Bellator is in his future.

UPDATE: Parisyan has signed with Impact FC in Australia. He is scheduled to face Luis Dutra Jr. on July 10.
