RANDY COUTURE WANTS THE WINNER OF THE MACHIDA VS. RUA REMATCH

Despite having a potential fight with new signee James Toney, former multi-divisional UFC champion, Randy Couture, already has his sights set on a new challenge.

“I think within the next six months I’d like to be in line to fight the winner of the Machida/Shogun fight.”

Couture counts himself as one of the many fans looking forward to the highly anticipated rematch between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua this Saturday at UFC 113.

“I’m going to be in Montreal to watch that fight very attentively. I think it’s going to be a great fight,”

After dropping back down to the light heavyweight division, Couture has gone 2-0 with wins over Mark Coleman and Brandon Vera. UFC President, Dana White, has said in the past that he still considers Couture one of the best in the weight class.

Depending on the result of Couture’s bout with Toney and the Rashad Evans vs. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson fight at UFC 114, one of the winners could find themselves battling Machida or Rua for the belt. Although fans have counted out Couture before, he has surprised us all on many occasions, leaving the likes of Tim Sylvia, Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz in his wake.

Does Couture deserve a shot at the light heavyweight title? Should the winner of Evans vs. Jackson get the first crack at it? According to White, the answer isn’t so clear.

UFC 113 is available on pay-per-view this Saturday at 10pm EST.
