CRISIS AVERTED?: TITO ORTIZ AND JENNA JAMESON ARE TRYING TO WORK IT OUT

A mere four days after UFC Light Heavyweight, Tito Ortiz, was arrested on charges of domestic violence, word has come out that a resolution may be near.

After the incident on Monday, a war of words between Ortiz and his alleged victim, Jenna Jameson, played out in the media. TMZ.com posted a video of Jameson stating that she intended on filing formal charges. Following suit, Ortiz held a press conference with his lawyer, Chip Matthews, accusing Jameson of an addiction to the pain killer Oxycontin.

Now it seems that cooler heads have prevailed. Today, Matthews described the whole incident as a simple misunderstanding and statements made by both parties to the police would be retracted.

“Both sides are interested in the truth coming out and for the welfare of their children and bringing an end to this.”

In a bit of back peddling, Matthews clarified statements made during Ortiz’s press conference.

“We never said Jenna was on drugs. We had said that he had found drugs in her pants from the night before. We were told later that the drugs were old.”

Ortiz is not completely in the clear yet. The Orange County District Attorney’s office could proceed with formal charges once they’ve looked at the evidence. If that were to occur, Matthews is confident that Ortiz will be exonerated.

Matthews also read a statement from Ortiz:

“I would like to thank the MMA community and its fans for their continued support. I have received thousands of messages of encouragement from friends and family within the MMA community. Your support means as much to me outside the Octagon as it does inside. Thank you.”
