WHICH JOSH KOSHECK WILL SHOW UP AT UFC 113?
Leading up to his co-main event tussle with Paul Daley at UFC 113, welterweight fighter, Josh Koscheck, has taken to his usual verbal warfare preceding the bout. Only this time, he has apparently talked so much trash that he’s come full circle and has now begun contradicting himself.
In an interview with MMA Weekly.com, Kosheck boasted about his intent to stand with Daley, a slightly undersized 170 pound scrapper from the U.K. who has a knack for separating his foes from consciousness.
“I’m going to stand toe-to-toe with Paul Daley, and if he can take my punches then maybe we’ll switch the game plan up, but I plan on going out and standing toe-to-toe. There’s no reason for me not to. I’ve been around a long time, I’ve had a lot of fights, and I don’t have a problem standing up with anybody. I believe I have just as good of striking as Paul Daley, well maybe not as good, but I can guarantee you I have as much power. That’s for sure.”
Considering Kosheck’s pedigree for wrestling, it would seem smarter for him to take the fight to the mat as quickly as possible.
Perhaps his training staff talked some sense into him or maybe Kosheck simply forgot about his plan to stand “toe-to-toe” with Daley because, in a new interview with UFC.com, the American Kickboxing Academy fighter not only assured MMA fans that he will win the bout, but he’ll do it by rear naked choke in round one.
“So if you’re a betting man, you better go to Vegas right now, and put money on Josh Koscheck because now that the guy has pissed me off, I can guarantee you that I’m gonna go in there and wrestle his ass down and rear naked choke him in round one. There you have it. I’ll probably beat him up a little bit before I choke him out, but in round one, he’s getting choked out. And that’s what he’s gonna have to sleep with over the next week – ‘How the hell am I gonna stop from getting taken down and put on my ass?’”
Is Kosheck simply trying to confuse Daley by bragging about his contradictory game plans or did he just forget about what he said last week? The smart money would be on Kosheck taking the match to the ground immediately where he has a distinct advantage in both wrestling and submissions. However, as we’ve seen in the past, he tends to let pride get in his way, resulting in stand up wars that don’t always turn out in his favor. Just ask Paulo Thiago.
If the fight remains on its feet, it could potentially steal the show on Saturday night. If it goes to the ground, MMA fans will find out very quickly if Daley has dedicated himself more to the submission game than he has in the past.
